Getting Help to update/install on Windows 10- PowerShell 5.1 installed

When I try to get help updated I get the following message:

update-help : Failed to update Help for the module(s) ‘WindowsUpdateProvider’ with UI culture(s) {en-US}
: Unable to retrieve the HelpInfo XML file for UI culture en-US.
Make sure the HelpInfoUri property in the module manifest is valid or check your network connection and then try the command again.
At line:1 char:1

  • update-help
  • CategoryInfo : ResourceUnavailable: (:slight_smile: [Update-Help], Exception
  • FullyQualifiedErrorId : UnableToRetrieveHelpInfoXml,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.UpdateHelpCommand

I do not see/find the correct XML file to modify to correct this problem.

I was doing as your book said RTF help first, but I cannot update/install at this point.

I believe this is an existing bug within Powershell 5.1:

A workaround is:

Update-Help -Verbose -Force -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

Not all help has updateable help, or the author did not provide a link for an update.

This kind of thing is common and can safely be ignored. Meaning, it can and will happen and always has happened

What Tom Yates gave you will not resolve this, but it will force the update of what can be updated and ignore all other errors and that verbose thing of course just allows you to see what is happening.
