Beginner

Any suggestions as to how to get started for a total beginner of PowerShell? I have written batch scripts but have no other programming skills. I registered for a class “AUTOMATING ADMINISTRATION WITH WINDOWS POWERSHELL” in November but is there anything I can do or read to prepare in advance?

Absolutely.

Start with “Learn PowerShell in a Month of Lunches”

Continue with “Learn PowerShell Toolmaking in a Month of Lunches”

These are excellent books.

Then take on any free eBook under the eBooks section of the powershell.org website. The forum is also very useful.

Month of Lunches is excellent. And Don Jones has many video tutorials on YouTube.I’m on this exact track and it works well for me. Also, Microsoft Virtual Academy has free video course - PowerShell 3 Jump Start. I’ve found it very helpful too. I haven’t yet got to the MVA What’s New in PowerShell 5.0 yet but it’s available there too.

I’m a noob so take my recommendations with a grain of salt. But this I already know: PowerShell rocks!
